Our precious Abigail has turned 4! We celebrated with a pool party for family and friends last weekend. For someone who refuses to learn to swim (because she doesn't want to get her face wet!) Abby really insisted on having a pool party this year.

In Parker, CO, there is a fabulous outdoor pool at O'Brien Park. The pool is called the H2O'Brien Pool. :) We reserved a pavilion, which allowed us to comfortably host our nearly 40 guests. All guests received full-day admissions to the pool and everyone - including us - was impressed by how nice the pool was - well suited for young kids as well as adults.

The party was from 3:30-5:00. Grandma and Grandpa Newell arrived to celebrate Abby's birthday earlier in the day since they were not planning on coming to the pool party. We didn't get to the pool until after 3:00. For the first hour, everyone just wanted to jump into the water.

Kids young and old all had a wonderful time! Abby's luck (born on 7/7/7, after all) played a huge factor in the success of this party. For about 3 weeks solid we have been experiencing afternoon thunderstorms. Huge, sky-splitting lightening and downpours. Wouldn't you know, that for the day of the party, there was barely a few fluffy clouds and not a single drop of water came from the sky to signal any ominous intentions.

At 4:30, we managed to pull everyone out of the pool to hydrate, feed, and sing Happy Birthday to Abby. The kids were all smiles as we pulled out homemade ice cream cone cupcakes, popcorn, and berries.

As soon as everyone was warm enough, we handed out treat bags (decorated cookies on a stick) and families either went home or headed back to the pool until closing at 6pm.

Turning 4 is a big deal for Abby and she has been looking forward to it for a long time. "Now I get to go to Kindergarten!!!" We're still not quite sure why going to Kindergarten means so much to her, but she will be transitioning to pre-K (where uniforms are required during the school year!) in a couple of weeks.
